The HUNTING
GAME - update patch to FULL Version 1.58
(updated March 27, 2001)
This latest update also fixes a problem with the recipes not showing up in the
kitchen.
IMPORTANT!!
This update will not work with the earliest versions of the Hunting Game.
If you have a Magellan version of the Hunting Game, it is version 1.02 and the
tips section will be corrupted if you try to update. Version
1.5 and the Special Edition CAN be updated using this update. These
versions are usually distributed by ValuSoft and will have the ValuSoft logo
on the CD or on the box.
UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make sure you have installed your version of The Hunting Game. It doesn't matter if your version works or not. Just make sure it is installed. You may have to say NO to the DirectX installation portion of the install in order to get the installation completed.
2. Download and run the update (HGupdate.exe) This will update the game on your hard drive. If you ever un-install the game you will have to run this updater again.
3. Run the game either by inserting the CD-ROM into the drive and clicking PLAY or by clicking on the Windows START button and then selecting PROGRAM FILES --> OQUIRRH --> The Hunting Game.
When the game starts, you will see the updated version number at the bottom
right of the title screen. It should say version 1.58. If you can't
get the game to start, see the TROUBLESHOOTING section below.
NEW UPDATED GAME PLAY INSTRUCTIONS for Version 1.58
NEW QUICK HUNT OPTION
- When you start a new game you will be asked if you want the QUICK
HUNT option or NORMAL game play. Normal game play requires that you
get your hunter education token, fitness tokens, visit the heritage room,
and go through all the educational features of the program. This
is the way the game was intended to be played. We recommend playing
the normal way at least once, but if you just want to go hunting and skip
all the educational stuff, select the QUICK HUNT option. This will
give you plenty of money and all the equipment you need to go hunting.
It will also give you all your fitness tokens, hunter ed token, etc.
You won't need to visit the heritage room to make the game last forever
either. The only thing you’ll need to do is mount your scopes on
your guns as desired.
TROUBLESHOOTING
The new version 1.58 of The Hunting Game relies strictly on having a DirectX compatible video and sound card. You must have a 16-bit sound card. All sounds are 16-bit except for the install screen. Problems will arise if you only have an 8-bit sound card.
If you can't get the game to work properly, click on the CONFIGURE option on the INSTALL screen. Un-check Direct Sound. Click OK, then try to PLAY the game.
If you still can't get the game to work, download the latest version of DirectX. There is a link to Microsoft's DirectX download page on Oquirrh's previous updates and patches page. We recommend getting the latest version which at this time is version 8.0a. REMEMBER: In order for the game to work properly, your video card MUST have a valid DirectX video driver installed. If your video card is not DirectX certified, you may have problems. You can also contact your video card manufacturer for an updated driver for your video card. Most video card manufacturers have a website with free driver updates.
